Project Overview

Balancing Heritage Preservation with High-Amperage EV Charging

Modernizing electrical infrastructure within an early twentieth-century residence requires specialized routing methodologies and careful load balancing. To support a 48-amp continuous EV charging load without altering vintage lathe-and-plaster interiors or damaging historic exterior brickwork, our team planned a subterranean pathway from the main distribution panel through foundation footings. All conduit transitions were color-matched to mortar joints, securing approval from local historical preservation authorities while delivering seamless charging performance.

Installation Steps & Engineering Considerations

Before running any high-voltage lines, we conducted an exhaustive continuous load calculation on the existing 200-amp main service panel. The assessment verified adequate headroom for a dedicated 60-amp double-pole breaker alongside electric climate control and water heating systems, preventing overloads during peak nighttime charging.
