Urban Residential Retrofit

Urban Garage Power Upgrade

Comprehensive electrical panel capacity enhancement and dedicated 48-amp EV charging circuit installation for a compact downtown townhouse garage.

Project Overview & Scope

Resolving High-Demand Charging Constraints in Compact Urban Garages

This downtown residence required reliable overnight charging for a newly acquired electric vehicle, but the existing 100-amp main service panel was operating near capacity. Space inside the single-car garage was extremely tight, with no direct pre-existing conduit pathways from the basement electrical room. Our team engineered a compact infrastructure upgrade, running a dedicated 60-amp feeder circuit, integrating a compact subpanel, and mounting a high-capacity Level 2 wall connector that delivers a continuous 11.5 kW charging output without risking main breaker overload.

Step-by-Step Retrofit Architecture & Installation Workflow

Prior to running any conductors, our certified technicians conducted a thorough continuous-duty load calculation conforming strictly to NEC Article 220. The evaluation accounted for the townhouse HVAC compressors, water heating appliances, and lighting circuits to guarantee the additional 48-amp continuous EV demand would not cause nuisance breaker trips during peak evening domestic power usage.
